Kimi Raikkonen Wins 2007 Brazilian GP And The World Championship

Kimi Raikkonen won today’s Brazilian Grand Prix and probably clinched the Drivers’ World Championship. As with most of this season’s results it will be up to the courts to finally decide who is actually the champion.

Going into the race the championship was Lewis Hamilton’s to lose and, like a champ, he managed it. A fourth corner tussle with alleged McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso sent him wide and cost him a few places. On the next lap a temporary engine problem slowed his progress and dropped him to last of those still running. A spirited drive brought him back to seventh but he needed fifth or better to take the title.

There was apparently a discrepancy in the fuel temperature in the Williams and BMW cars. The race stewards allowed it to pass but McLaren has appealed, and why not? Everything else has been appealed this year… they have nothing to lose and, if they can get a few other drivers penalized, Hamilton still has a sniff at the title.

And so the most litigous season in memory still isn’t over…

Kimi Raikkonen Wins 2007 Chinese GP

Kimi Raikkonen won today’s Chinese Grand Prix after taking the lead from pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton as he tried to extend the life of his intermediate tyres on a drying track. Shortly afterwards Hamilton slid into a gravel trap at the entrance to pit lane as he finally decided to change to a new set of tyres.

Hamilton’s mistake keeps the championship hopes of Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso alive.
