Michael Schumacher Wins 2001 European GP

A good day for the top three teams with all of their drivers scoring points but a 10 second stop-and-go penalty on Ralf Schumacher for putting two wheels across the blend line when leaving the pits puts paid to his chances of repeating his Canadian form and beating big brother Michael.

Apparently all was not sweetness and light between the Schumacher siblings as Ralf had a word or two with Michael after the race about Michael doing his usual trick of veering across the track at the start to win the first corner.

Ralf Schumacher scored the second win of his career after breaking all lap records at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. A pit stop strategy very reminiscent of his elder brother kept said brother Michael Schumacher in second place. Mika Hakkinen scored his first podium finish of the year for McLaren in third.

Jordan test driver Ricardo Zonta substituted for Heinz-Harald Frentzen who was sent home for medical tests following a high speed rear end shunt into the barrier during qualifying.

Pedro de la Rosa scores his first point of the year for Jaguar.
