BMW Drops Villeneuve

BMW Sauber F1 has announced that Jacques Villeneuve will not be racing for them for the remainder of this season and that they are parting company with immediate effect.

Although a blow for Villeneuve as this probably marks the end of his Formula 1 career, it may come as some small consolation to Robert Kubica who was disqualified from seventh place in yesterday’s Hungarian Grand Prix while sitting in for Villeneuve. The decision is apparently based on BMW’s desire to see how its other drivers perform in a racing situation and could well mean that Kubica will be keeping the seat for longer than he had thought.
