Hakkinen Disqualified From Belgian GP

Mika Hakkinen, who only retained his 5th position on the starting grid at Spa through an appeal, has been disqualified from his 3rd place finish. The enquiry into the alleged McLaren fuel irregularity has upheld the initial findings and Mika has been stripped of his podium finish and the 4 championship points that came with it.

McLaren had originally appealed the exclusion on the grounds that the fuel in Hakkinen’s car was from the same batch that he used at the British GP which was tested there and found to be legal.

The other points finishers have all moved up one place but there is no sign that Gerhard Berger who finished 7th will move up into the points and inherit 6th place.
